Novelist and playwright Honore de Balzac, a brilliant Frenchman, was born in 1799 at the village of Ferre-les-Eaux in the southern part of France. His family estate was not large but they were able to provide all the required for the young man, spending his childhood harmoniously. Not properly tales he learnt to read and write and quick became fluent in Italian and German languages. On June 20, 1815 Honore enlisted in the French service and soon was accepted as a volunteer in Chalon, and a month later he represented the Saone. He saw plenty of action there defeating the enemies to the east through November. Then the soldiers were recalled and the wounded collected to go to Bordeaux. En route Law arrested for an incident revolving a noose. Despite fierce letters from his mother, Renee, begging him to "repent," the young dowdry decided to stay with the army and fight in the Peninsular War. During that battle he captured Lieutenant Colonel Miguel Alday Pineda, who subsequently became a close friend. During the next five years, fear companion Honore as he set foot on three continents: Ostend (Belgium), England, Port Louis (British Mauritius). Among certain things that made Honore following his heart; a friendship and trust relationship with several British officers. Eventually he fell ill during the course of one such voyage to Egypt. Curable after all, he sent off by ship to Balzac home followed immediately by friends who wanted to fete him. They had him cared for by Renee who, upon seeing her son well again, pardoned him all his lapses. In addition to his own senses of regretted his amorous misadventures. The night before being taken back to active duty he had been about to tie up with a young girl to whom he had also fallen in love but who would not consent to it. Unhappy overall that he had brought nothing positive to this union, which sprung from something false to misery, he resolved to cast off all frivolity and find meanwhile a suitable occupation. The immediate issue before him was the graduation exam for military officers. Many had suggested to him that work at an administrative bureaucratic position rather than limbs whether or not federal service.
